How to Get Clarity on Your Next Big Leap
Feeling stuck between where you are and where you want to be? This step-by-step guide will help you gain crystal clarity.
Clarity isn't something you find—it's something you create. I've worked with dozens of entrepreneurs and creatives who felt 'stuck' at a plateau, and every time, the issue wasn't a lack of ambition or talent. It was a lack of clarity. They didn't know what they truly wanted, or they wanted too many things at once.
Here's a process I use with my one-on-one clients to cut through the noise and get to the heart of what's next. It takes about 90 minutes, and by the end, you'll have a clear direction.
Step 1: The Brain Dump. Get a notebook and write down everything you think you want to achieve in the next year. Don't filter. Don't judge. Just dump it all out. This includes big dreams, small tasks, I-shoulds, and wild fantasies. The goal is to get it out of your head and onto paper.
Step 2: The 3-Question Filter. Once you have your list, ask three questions about each item: 1) Does this excite me or drain me? 2) Does this align with my core values? 3) If I could only achieve one thing this year, would this be it? Be honest. Items that pass all three questions are your 'core desires.' Those that don't? They're distractions.
Step 3: The Visual Vision. Take your top 1-3 core desires and create a visual representation. This could be a vision board, a mind map, or even a simple drawing. The act of visualizing helps your brain recognize opportunities that align with your goal. I had a client who drew a simple picture of her ideal client avatar, and within a week she met someone who fit that exact description.
Step 4: The Reverse Calendar. Now, work backward from your goal. If you want to launch a new offer in six months, what needs to happen at month 5, 4, 3, and so on? Break each month into weekly actions. This turns a vague dream into a concrete plan.
Step 5: The First Step. Identify the one action you can take in the next 24 hours. It doesn't have to be big. It could be sending an email, drafting a proposal, or booking a consultation. Take that step immediately. Momentum is everything.
I've seen this process work repeatedly. One client was torn between starting a podcast and writing a book. After the filter, she realized the podcast was a 'should' and the book was her true desire. She wrote the outline in one afternoon and finished the draft three months later.
Clarity is a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets. If you want a personalized framework, my 'Clarity Compass' template walks you through this step by step. Otherwise, start with the brain dump today.
